You know, seasons come and seasons go. And just like the seasons, so can our mental health, if we allow it to. It never ceases to amaze me at the people who are able to bounce back in a moments notice, while others need more time - sometimes an hour, sometimes a day, sometimes longer. For one feeling discouraged about life, it can cause us to pause in that moment and stay there like putty has attached itself to our feet - making us unable to move.
Perhaps it's been hanging onto hurtful words or occurrences, a boss not giving the promotion to one who has been putting in time and effort, or it can just be that you're "stuck" in a down-day. I get it - I've been there. This has consequences, making it difficult for us to be in the here and now.
I can often find myself in, basically a pit of despair, taken by my anxiety and depressive thoughts. It's like the enemy sends a storm my way, when I'm already halfway down. Then boom! Thunder crashes and lightning strikes, leaving me cold, wet, and no umbrella to be found!
It is then, when I'm soaked, that I come to this verse and realize that God is the giver of hope and fills us with what we need, when we need it! I never truly have to be stuck - because I can trust that God will always bring the sunshine to break through the meanest downpour that the enemy throws my way! He is the ultimate joy bringer and He is inviting you to take cover under his umbrella, no matter how devastating your storm might be!
"May the God of hope fill you with joy, and peace as you trust in Him." - Romans 15:13
